Brief on Girl Soccer Academy
Girl Soccer is registered as a community based organization and was formed in the year 2000 as a soccer playing group for girls since at the time soccer was viewed as sport for boys and men only. The group is run entirely by volunteer youth living in Kibera slums. Its programmes include a girl soccer team and an informal secondary school called Girl Soccer Academy. The group’s activities have expanded to accommodate and address the various other challenges facing young girls living in the slum environment of Kibera.

Girl Soccer Academy is an informal secondary school catering for girls only. The total number of girls in the school currently stands at eighty -one. The girls’ age group ranges from 15 years to 20 years of age. There are three classes only- Forms one, two and three. The school is hoping to sit candidates for next year’s KCSE examinations. It registered with the Ministry of Education as an informal school. The school follows the current curriculum from the Ministry of Education and is in the process of registering with the Ministry of Education for Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education- KCSE.

Donation of desks and chairs to Girl Soccer Academy by SPRR
SPRR donated twenty five lockers and chairs to the school on May 5th this year to the delight of the Form two class. Previously, the form two class used tables where around ten girls cramped around the table. This adversely affected their learning and during exams, there was no adequate privacy.
